Mimosa occurs as genus of about 400 mintage of herbs and shrubs, in the subfamily Mimosoideae of the legume family Fabaceae, with evenly bipinnate leaves. A right-known coinage is Mimosa pudica, likewise referred to as a Sensitive plant, or Dormant grass, because of the way it folds its leaves down while touched; it & numerous others as well stack their leaves in the evening. These are indigen to southern Mexico and Central America but is widely cultivated elsein which for its curiosity value, both as an indoor plant inside moderate areas, & open in the tropics, where it has be an invasive weed in some areas, notably Hawaii.

A title Mimosa has besides been misapplied to many more related metal money by using similar pinnated or even bipinnate leaves, virtually all unremarkably to Albizia julibrissin (Silk Tree) and Acacia dealbata (Silver Wattle).
